  • Get in some gym time! Haven’t had time to take that spin class your friend has been telling you about? Go ahead and give it a shot.

  • Sit outside and watch the sunset with your favorite glass of wine. Now that’s therapeutic!

Celebrate Friendship Day!

As if we need a special day to celebrate all of our gal pals, buddies, besties, and BFFs in our lives, August 3, 2014 is a date dedicated just to that.  This celebration actually dates back to 1919 thanks to Hallmark cards. So if you missed out time to do a Belated “Friendship Day” Date!

friends But over the years the idea waned a bit and until 1998 when Winnie the Pooh, of all characters, was named the world’s Ambassador of Friendship by the United Nations and they declared July 30 as International Friendship Day. So, while some countries celebrate it the last week of July, most other countries still deem the first Sunday of August as the original Friendship Day.

Whatever the day, it’s a great time to think cherish your friends, think about just what makes a great friend, and, of course, plan some spa time with your BFF!

So what makes a great friend? A truly fantastic friend does seven these fabulous things…

Forgives: No one’s perfect. We all mess up once in a while. What’s important is how you handle the mistakes. The two most important sentences to get through life’s little mishaps are: “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you.” Almost any friendship can be mended with those little words. It’s just as important to forgive as it is to be forgiven.

Respects: R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Our friends might not always agree with our choices, but they should at least respect that they are our choices for our reasons – and vice versa. Without respect, there can’t be a true foundation for friendship. The same goes for how we treat others. As Albert Einstein said, “I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.”

Inspires: Be inspiring and surround yourself with people who inspire you. Oprah Winfrey once said, “Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.” Wise words from a wise woman.

Enjoys: Good friends need to enjoy each other’s company. Have fun, laugh, get silly, be goofy, and let your hair down! A good belly laugh goes a long way. Having a friend who makes you laugh and shares your sense of humor – and laughs at your jokes even if they’re not so funny- is a good friend indeed!

Never judges: As the late Maya Angelou, who passed away this May, famously once said, “The most called-upon prerequisite of a friend is an accessible ear.” Sometimes we just need someone to sit and listen to us vent, cry, rant and rave without chiming in with judgment, opinions, or advice. Never judge; just listen with love, compassion, and empathy.

Drives you: No, we’re not talking about being your personal chauffeur (though that would be nice). We mean a true friend drives you to be the best you can be, drives you to pick yourself up when you are down, and drives you to follow your dreams. And, well, on second thought, maybe she also does drive you home if you had one too many glasses of wine on a girls’ night out!

Spas! Above all, a good friend knows that the word “spa” is indeed a verb (even if Webster’s Dictionary doesn’t quite know it as one yet!) and she knows that “spa-ing” together is something that great friendships are made of!

EveryBody Deserves a Massage!

woman-massage “EveryBody Deserves a Massage,” which is a nationwide event for massage therapists coast to coast created by the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals organization. Well, naturally, we could not agree more that everyone not only deserves to treat himself or herself to a rubdown regularly, but their mind, body, and spirit actually needs it. Here are 10 reasons why you should book your massage today!

De-Stress: The simplest benefit of getting a massage of any kind (but especially Swedish, aromatherapy, or hot stone massage) is to zone out, relax, and unwind. With relaxing music setting the mood, a soothing scent in the air, and healing hands melting your troubles away, all of your stress and worries disappear.

Be Happy: Massage is also known to help with depression and anxiety. Aside from the fact that when we are relaxed, we naturally have less negative feelings of any kind, massage is also known to reduce the levels of the stress hormone cortisol. It’s also known to boost what is referred to as the “happy hormones” of serotonin and dopamine.

Sore No More: Before popping a pain reliever for the sore, stiff, or aching muscles from gardening, sitting at your computer too long, or that intense work out you just endured, try a nice, long massage instead. Massage therapy gets to the root of your aches and pains by relaxing the tense muscles, encouraging blood flow, and increasing flexibility.

Detox: When a massage therapist works out the knots in your muscles, they are stimulating the flow of toxic waste from your muscles, tissues, and organs. It also helps your overall health and digestion. It’s especially effective with deep tissue and sports massage, but any type of massage, including the more relaxing massages like Swedish, will also help to detoxify the body. And, don’t forget – always drink lots of water before and especially after a massage!

Move It: If you’re sick of getting that tingly feeling in your hands and feet then massage can help with that too. The pressure of massage helps get blood flowing throughout your body to improve circulation, which improves overall health and body function.

Limber Up: Not everyone can touch their toes or do a perfect Downward Facing Dog, but massage can certainly help get us closer to that. Massage helps increase our flexibility by working our muscles, connective tissues, and tendons to increase our range of motion and fluidity.

Fight That Cold: Studies have shown that regular massage helps to boost your white blood cell count, which helps strengthen the immune system to let your body fight off colds and diseases.

Get More ZZZs: Anyone who has ever fallen asleep on the massage table knows exactly how a great massage can knock you out. Well, even if you don’t fall asleep instantly, the sleepy-time affect will last until you get home. If you have trouble sleeping, book our last appointment of the day and head straight home for a good night’s sleep!

If you need one more reason to get a massage it’s this – It just feels GOOD! Call today to book a massage appointment with us.

Neck and Décolleté Neglect

Neck and Décolleté Neglect

Are you paying attention to these special areas?

Spring is here, which means we finally get to pack away the sweaters and flaunt the tank tops and sundresses! But, many of us still try to cover up during this hot, humid time of year to hide unsightly brown spots and wrinkles on the neck and chest area, causing us to be uncomfortable and insecure. It doesn’t have to be that way this year! Read on to learn how to get your delicate neck and décolleté areas ready for some outdoor fun!

The neck and décolleté areas are the most neglected areas when it comes to skincare, yet they are extremely vulnerable to wrinkles and require special care. These sensitive areas must be cared for just like your face and body if you want beautiful skin all over.

While acne and other skincare issues are not prominent in these areas, the lack of care is eventually revealed through dark, dry, flaky skin, dark spots, and deep wrinkles.   Your esthetician can create a program to help restore soft, vibrant skin. Call today to reserve your consultation.

To reveal glowing, healthy skin in the neck and décolleté areasbetween spa visits, follow these tips:

  • Moisturize!! Be sure to include the neck and chest areas when completing your daily face and body moisturizing regimen.
  • Use a thicker night cream before bedto restore firmness and softness.
  • Be sure to exfoliate weekly at home between spa visits to keep skin soft and supple.
  • Most importantly, ALWAYS use sunscreen with a high SPF when outdoors to avoid the sun’s damaging rays.

For best results and to keep your skin looking healthy and young, be as consistent as possible with your skincare routine while following your esthetician’s recommendations.

Here’s to healthy, vibrant skin all season long!

Charity as an Expression of Love!

Celebrate the Month of Love through Acts of Kindness

Love is in the air this month!  We’ll see happy couples exchanging gifts, making plans for Valentine’s Day, and stampeding their favorite florists for the perfect flower arrangement.  But, this year, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be for couples only.  We all can show our love by helping others this month.

charity-imageWhether you volunteer your time, or donate funds to a cause in need, providing assistance to charities is a thoughtful way of expressing your love for your family, your friends, and your community.

Read on for recent acts of kindness by celebrities, as well as one little girl in Florida and an entire football team in Georgia:

Singer, Taylor Swift surprised a 10-year old fan at her hospital bedside in March, 2013. The child’s family had previously made a YouTube video requesting the pop star’s visit.

Actor, Bradley Cooper and NFL wide receiver, Julian Edelman visited a fan who was recovering from surgery after suffering injuries during the Boston Marathon bombing last year.

In 2013, soccer player, David Beckham announced that he would donate his entire salary to charity.

Did you hear about the little girl in Tampa, Florida who collected over $100.00 in pennies from friends and families and donated it to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay? What an amazing act of love for a child!

And then there’s the Roswell High School football team who recently expressed many acts of kindness to a 9-year old fan battling leukemia.  Not only did they offer continued encouragement by sending cards and organizing fundraisers, but they also rallied together and named her their Homecoming Sweetheart!  Now, that’s teamwork at its finest!

You don’t have to be famous or have a lot of money to assist those in need.  In many cases, simply contributing your time can be the most worthy donation of all.

Want to help, but don’t know where to begin?  Check out the following organizations for opportunities to assist both financially and/or by volunteering your time:

  • Salvation Army
  • Give Kids the World
  • American Cancer Society
  • American Red Cross
  • Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society

Make this a Valentine’s Day to remember.  Follow your heart and assist someone less fortunate than yourself.  You’ll be so glad that you did!

Stick to your New Year’s Resolutions in 2014!

Dreading those New Year’s Resolutions? You don’t have to!!

You’ve probably made numerous New Year’s resolutions in the past that have gone unfulfilled.  Haven’t we all?  For some reason, at the beginning of each year, we make these unrealistic resolutions to better ourselves only to end up disappointed and depressed when we aren’t successful.  Don’t do that in 2014.  Don’t resolve to lose ridiculous amounts of weight in an unhealthy attempt for perfection.  Instead, seek more realistic goals that lead to a healthier, more peaceful life.  Try these New Year’s resolutions for a healthier, happier you!

shutterstock_126493061Get Moving.  Incorporate activities into your day that keep you in motion. Strive for 30 minutes of activity each day.  You can take a walk, ride your bike, or even join in a game of softball in the backyard with the family.  Take the stairs and avoid the elevator.  Park in that one space at work no one else wants—the one farthest from the front door.  Mix it up and keep it fun!  You’ll feel great doing it and it won’t be long before you notice the results.

Tweak your diet.  Make small, yet meaningful changes to your diet.  Reduce sodium intake by opting for low or no-sodium foods. Sodium contributes to high blood pressure and causes that familiar, uncomfortable bloating we have all experienced.

You may also want to add antioxidants to your diet to help fight cancer, inflammation and heart disease.  Potatoes, beans, cherries, apples, plums, and even chocolate contain antioxidants. Yum!

Toss out the white bread and pasta and switch to whole grain breads, pasta, rice and cereals. Along with assisting with weight management, whole grains help reduce the risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer, and high blood pressure as well as other health issues.

And, of course, increase your intake of fruits and vegetables.  Fruits and vegetables provide us with all those necessary vitamins and minerals our bodies need to function and look their best.

ALWAYS wear sunscreen.  Over time, the sun’s harmful rays cause wrinkles, blotchiness, brown spots, and yes, skin cancer.  Do yourself a favor and commit to wearing sunscreen every time you step outdoors.  Your soft, supple, blemish-free skin will thank you!

Reserve some ME time.  We are constantly on the go with work and family.  Our lives are so busy.  It’s easy to become overwhelmed and exhausted.  Your most important New Year’s Resolution must be to take care of yourself.  Go ahead and reserve some time to relax and unwind at the spa.  Commit to treating yourself the way you deserve to be treated.

You don’t have to dread making New Year’s Resolutions in 2014.  Commit to these sensible, realistic resolutions and enjoy a safe, healthy, prosperous New Year!

Look your Best for the Holiday Social Scene

Here Come the Holidays!

Look your Best for the Holiday Social Scene

here-come-holiday-imageThe holidays are here and with them come the parties, dances, family gatherings, and charitable events.  Are you ready for all the excitement? We all want to look fabulous for these festive occasions.  Don’t wait until the last minute to prepare.  Plan your look ahead of time for you and your mate! Check out these great ideas to help you celebrate in style!

Ladies, obtaining the perfect outfit is your first priority.  First, make a mental note of all the events you will attend.  Are you celebrating with co-workers, friends, or both?  Keep in mind, your dress at an office party should definitely be more conservative than that of a party with friends and family.

The popular little black dress is always a safe bet.  You can accessorize to fit the occasion! Dress it up with sexy heels, earrings, a necklace, etc., or add a pop of color with a silky, red scarf, red lips and red nails.   Or, downplay it a bit for that business party with modest heels and jewelry, and neutral makeup and nail tones.  It depends on the statement you want to make.

And don’t forget about the special man in your life.  Make sure you select the perfect tie for him that matches your dress.  A traditional black suit and tie are always in style!

Don’t forget the most important part of your pre-party plan.  Schedule your spa visits and hair appointments in advance so you can arrive to your social events looking refreshed and vibrant.  Reserve your chemical facial peel to eliminate dry, rough skin and top it off with a hydrating mask for soft, supple skin. You won’t believe how beautiful your makeup will look once applied after these treatments!

Once you have found the dress, you can plan your makeup.   Stop by the spa for holiday makeup tips and check out the latest colors. Glossy lips and smoky eyes are a popular look this year and they complement the black dress, as well. For a little flair, spice up the gloss with hues of red or hot pink.  And, as always…long, lush lashes are a must!!  Top it off with a bronzer for a sun-kissed, healthy glow. Don’t overdo it.  We want a healthy look…not a fake one.

You’ve got the dress, accessories and makeup in place. All that’s left is the perfect hair design to complete your look. Trendy styles this year include the up do…perhaps a high bun or ponytail.  Or, you may want to let your hair down in soft, cascading waves for a more casual look.  Start thinking about your hairstyle a few weeks ahead of time so you don’t have to stress about it the day of the event.  Make your appointment with your hairstylist way in advance!

Want to lose a few inches before you slip into that dress?  A body wrap is the perfect solution.  Reduce cellulite and lose inches quickly and safely with a signature body wrap.  You’ll feel so confident when you head out to spend time with friends, family and co-workers!

Remember, less is more. Keep it simple, yet classy.  That’s a guaranteed winner every time.

Shop until you Drop!

Shop until you Drop!

Compile your lists, load up the shopping bags, gas up the car and hit the stores!!  Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday are quickly approaching! Don’t get caught unprepared at the last minute.  Here are some tips to help make the biggest shopping weekend of the year a little easier for you.

shop-till-dropFirst, you must plan ahead.  Don’t wait until Thanksgiving night when you’re feeling lazy from all the turkey and pumpkin pie to plan your strategy for the weekend ahead.  Start planning weeks in advance.  Who’s on Santa’s list this year?  Decide who you’re buying for and set a monetary limit for each person.  Then, jot down a few gift ideas under each person’s name that fit within the established budget.  Conquer this step and you’re headed in the right direction!

Next, you need to start looking at all the ads coming out for Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday.  Compare the ads with your list.  Don’t just head to a one stop shopping center on Black Friday and buy everything all at once.  Be a smart shopper.  You have a weekend of values from which to choose.  Take advantage of that.  For example, someone on your list may benefit from time spent at the spa. CHECK ONLINE ON Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday and check out our special offers!  Then, go ahead and take a break from the shopping craziness and relax with a massage.  What could be better?

Don’t forget about Cyber Monday.  Your favorite online boutiques will have added values and specials for your shopping pleasure.  Many retailers will offer free shipping on Cyber Monday.  You definitely want to make the most of that!! You can even purchase that spa gift certificate online if you don’t have time to stop in.

And, of course, when the weekend has come to a close and things have settled down a bit, make sure you visit the spa for a deep tissue massage to relieve the stress and anxiety accumulated over the past week.  You certainly have earned it!

Happy Shopping!

Fall Trends

fall-trends-opt2 September 22nd is the First Day of Fall! Finally, some relief from the heat! That fall freshness is in the air and you can sit outside to enjoy a pleasant breeze.  How nice!  But, you also need to spruce up that wardrobe, update that hairdo, repair your skin and refresh your make-up so you can be stylish and look your best this fall.  Here’s what’s trending this year:

Neutrals are big this year.  Consider shades of gray, such as charcoal and slate, the new neutral this season. Check out Michael Kors and Oscar De La Renta for classic ideas.
Color-blocking various colors in one outfit in hues that are a bit off are also popular for fall.  Don’t be surprised if you see black, white, navy and camel in one ensemble. DKNY, Victoria Beckham and The Row have some interesting variations of this fashion trend.
Green is the “go to” color this year. Deep, rich shades of green paired with black scarves, boots, and gloves are a must.  Look for Kenneth Cole and Calvin Klein to lead the pack with this new trend!
Another must-have for fall is leather.  It’s back and it’s bold! We’re going to see that “street-wise gone classy” look in leather this year.  From boots to skirts, to pants, to overcoats….leather is making a comeback! Altuzarra, Donna Karan and Lacoste are just a few of the big names showcasing chic looks in leather this season.

Once you pull together the perfect outfit, it’s important to style the perfect hair, get glowing skin, and add that final touch of make-up to complete the look.  Here’s what’s happening in hair, skin and make-up this year:

Naturalwavy hair and sexy, stick straight styles are staying put this season.  Both trends have been around for a while and they’re not going anywhere.  Change it up by moving the part from the side to the middle or vice versa to keep it fresh and new.
The Low Ponytail.  Ponytails positioned at the nape of the neck were popular this spring and summer, and they’re carrying over into fall.  Enhance the look with loose, carefree strands and you’re all set!
It’s important to get your skin in check this time of year, as well.  You need to exfoliate the damage away from the summer heat and sun, and prepare your skin for the winter ahead.  Consult your esthetician so she can get you started on the right skin care regimen for you!
Make-up always completes your look! Red or wine-hued lips paired with shadows in shades of prune or pumpkin are popular accents this fall.  And don’t forget the mascara!  As always, long, full lashes are a must!

This fall will introduce some great, new trends and highlight some oldies, but goodies.  Mix and match, have fun with it, and step out in style!
