Win the War on Hair Removal!

shutterstock_130970495Win the War on Hair Removal!

A hairy woman is not generally considered an attractive sight. And unfortunately, as we age, our hormones turn against us and we tend to grow coarse, thick hair in unconventional places…even our face!

Women fight the battle of full-body hair removal on a daily basis. Shaving is an inconvenience that often results in painful nicks and cuts as we hurry to head out the door. There has to be an easier way!!

Laser hair removal is a technique of removing unwanted hair by exposure to pulses of laser light that destroy the hair follicle. This new trend is becoming increasingly popular with women as a convenient, permanent method of hair removal. Keep reading to discover the benefits of this popular treatment.

Say goodbye to your razor!

Eliminating unwanted hair usually translates into a lot of time spent shaving. Because laser hair removal permanently removes almost all of the hair treated, you can spend less time shaving and more time completing meaningful tasks or enjoying your family.

Eliminate painful ingrown hairs.

Many of us suffer through painful, unsightly ingrown hairs due to shaving. In most cases, laser hair removal reduces the incidence by nearly 90%. That’s significant! Many women discover that laser hair removal offers the only long-term solution to their complications with ingrown hairs.

Reveal healthier looking skin.

Laser hair removal leaves the skin softer and smoother, without unappealing stubble that causes discomfort. Your skin will have a healthy glow without the discoloration sometimes associated with shaving.

Confidence

Our personal appearance plays a key role in the self-confidence we exude. When you look good you, you feel good. In turn, you will have a positive self-image that transforms into greater success…both personally and professionally. Laser hair removal is an excellent tool to include in your beauty regimen.

Thank a Teacher This Month!

3205338-educationDid you have a favorite teacher when you were in school? That one person who encouraged you and inspired you to be more than you ever thought you could be. You know…that teacher who taught you those life lessons that textbooks simply can’t impart. We all had those teachers who were so dedicated to our education, causing us to never forget them. October 5th is World Teachers Day. In honor of these significant individuals, let’s consider the importance of the role they play in young people’s lives.

Children spend more time at school than they do at home. This means the people they encounter at school make a drastic impact in their lives. Teachers are not simply teaching lessons each day. They’re helping children develop socially and emotionally, as well. What a tremendous responsibility!

Teachers are self-esteem builders.

One of the biggest things that teachers impact is student self-esteem. Reinforcing self-esteem in the classroom is one of the most important things teachers do. Teachers communicate encouragement and positive feedback to their students, which is particularly vital to the success of struggling students.

Teachers are life skills instructors.

Each day in the classroom, teachers divulge life skills to students that are essential for future success. From completing a resume to appropriate behavior in social situations, teachers are preparing children for real-world events they will face in the future.

Teachers are motivators.

Teachers motivate students to become better than they think they are capable of becoming.  On a daily basis, teachers are reiterating the importance of discipline, responsibility, commitment, and always trying your very best at everything you do. These are values that are crucial to success.

Teachers deserve some relaxation! Gifting your favorite teacher to enjoy a relaxing stress relieving massage or facial is the perfect way to say Thank You! Click Here to purchase a Savanna MedSpa Gift Certificate!

Healthy Eating for a More Improved You!

shutterstock_50581876Eating healthy is easier than you think it is! If you think of eating as an opportunity to improve your health and overall well-being instead of a dreaded sacrifice, you’re one step closer to success. Check out some of the ways you can improve your quality of life by starting a healthy eating program.

Healthy eating keeps you…HEALTHY!

Implementing a healthy diet into your life is the easiest way to fight off many diseases, including heart disease and diabetes. A healthy diet boosts your immune system and enables the body to function as it needs to. Combining a healthy diet with exercise increases the possibility of living a longer, more vibrant life.

Healthy eating is an effective weight loss tool.

For those of us trying to shed a few pounds, a healthy diet is a must. We hear all the time about people going on fad diets only to gain the weight right back when they return to normal eating habits. By sticking to a healthy diet that includes all of the food groups, you can lose the weight and maintain it because you are choosing a healthy lifestyle over dieting, which leads to long-term results.

Healthy eating increases energy levels.

Including foods such as lean proteins, vegetables, fruits, and grains in your diet will keep you energized throughout the day. Processed foods lose the nutrients our bodies need to stay healthy and strong. But whole, natural foods are packed with vitamins and minerals that we need to stay healthy and vibrant.

Healthy eating can make you look and feel younger.

One of the key components to youthful-looking skin is eating a balanced diet. The nutrients in fruits and vegetables promote supple, glowing skin. And don’t forget to drink plenty of water. Your skin thrives on water, so drink up!

Healthy eating eliminates holiday overindulgence!

The holidays are approaching and many of us struggle to keep our waistlines in check during the fun parties and family gatherings. By leading a healthy lifestyle that incorporates exercise and healthy eating, it is easier to limit fattening, unhealthy food choices.

With the celebration of Halloween this month, parents may be concerned about allowing their children to eat the large amounts of candy they acquire when trick-or-treating. We suggest setting boundaries to how much your children can eat on Halloween night…perhaps they can indulge a bit. After that, set a limit (maybe 1-2 pieces) of the amount of candy they can have each day forward. And be sure to continue packing them healthy lunches with fruit when they head off to school to keep them on their healthy track.

Don’t get frustrated during the holidays this year. Adjust your eating habits and get on the path to a healthier, more enjoyable lifestyle. Your body will thank you!

Make a Great First Impression…..Every Time!

UntitledWe have all heard the old adage, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” In both our personal and professional lives…we simply can’t help it…. we make a judgment about people the very first time we meet them.  We dissect their hair, skin, and overall appearance as we quietly decide if we want to be associated with this person.   Be advised….you are being dissected, as well.  Keep reading for a few tips to make a great first impression every time!!

Wash your face!
For radiant skin, it’s so important to wash your face morning and night, and follow up with a moisturizing night cream (insert recommended night cream) before you go to bed.  Sleeping in your makeup is a recipe for dirty, dull skin. It’s simple…just don’t do it.  Always wash your makeup completely off.  Contact your esthetician so she can recommend the facial treatments you need and help you create the perfect skin care regimen for home. 520-795-3341, Click Here to see our Cleansers

Use a deep-cleansing mask
A deep-cleansing mask (insert recommended mask) is an important step in relieving your skin of impurities because it brings everything to the surface to be cleansed away. Look for ingredients like kaolin clay and charcoal, which absorb excess oil and debris, as well as exfoliators like salicylic and alpha hydroxyl acids. See all of our Masks Click Here

Alter your diet
Toss out the sugars and starches!  Instead, choose healthy foods like fruits and vegetables to snack on. One of the best ways to get your skin, hair, and body back in shape is to include berries, carrots, and green vegetables in your diet.  The vitamins and minerals in these foods are crucial for glowing skin and hair, and a healthy body.  And don’t forget the water.  A hydrated body is a beautiful body!

Get a workout in
Not only does exercise get you in tip top shape, but it also boosts circulation and opens pores, much like a good spa steaming. Try hitting a low-impact cardio machine or taking a brisk walk for 30 minutes each evening.  You will be surprised how great you look and feel after a few weeks of sticking to a workout plan.

First impressions are so important!  If you follow these simple steps, you will make a fabulous first impression every time!

Are You In Bikini Shape?

bikini

August is typically the month that most people head off for their big summer vacation. If you’ve spent the last few months indulging in backyard BBQs and poolside margaritas, there is still time to get into bikini shape by making a few easy changes to your diet and workout routine and by doing one of your favorite things… hitting the spa!

Burn More Calories!

*In addition to your usual fitness activities and workout routines, consider making these small changes to your daily routine to burn off a few more calories each day:

*Walk around your house or office when you are chatting on the phone with your girlfriend or on a conference call for work instead of sitting in a chair. Every step counts.

*Take the stairs instead of the elevator… always!

*Stop looking for that perfect parking space. Instead, purposely park farther away so you have more steps in your day. If that means, leaving earlier to do errands, then do it!

*Multi-Task: Watch your favorite TV show or movie while doing crunches, lunges, planks, or jumping jacks.

Replace the Basics!

Diets come and go, but making a few simple substitutions to your regular diet can really make a difference.

  • Replace sugar with applesauce when you’re baking.
  • Go for nuts instead of croutons for that extra crunch you want in your salad.
  • Opt for non-fat plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. It tastes the same with much less guilt!
  • Swap out rice for quinoa.
  • Try chia seeds instead of breadcrumbs.
  • Skip the whole milk and try almond or soymilk.

Hit the Spa!

Now for the fun part! Aside from being a great way to treat yourself, think of the spa as also the go-to place to get yourself in bikini shape and to care for your skin from summer fun in the sun! Consider these treatments…

  • Slimming wraps can help you lose few inches and reduce the appearance of cellulite so you look your best in that bikini!
  • Detox wraps also help to rid your body of toxins from your favorite summer cocktails, such as margaritas, daiquiris, and Mai Tai’s!
  • Did you get too much sun this summer? Try a hydrating or cooling facial for your over-exposed skin.
  • Exfoliating body scrubs are a great way to either prep your skin for a spray tan or scrub off the dry skin after a summer of sun.
  • Mani/Pedi – Of course a nice bright summer color on your fingertips or toes is the accessory for your vacation, beach, or pool attire. And, don’t forget to take care of your “beach feet” with a good exfoliating foot treatment.

Ways to Show Mom You Love Her!

Though we all try to show it year round, Mother’s Day is a special time to remind mom just how much we truly care, love, and appreciate her. While Sunday brunch, flowers, a heart-felt gift, and a tear-jerking card are usually on the agenda, here are six more ways to show mom just how much you care.

family-walking

  1. Luxuriate at the Spa: Naturally, a day at the spa is a wonderful indulgence for mom and a great way to spend time together. Relax, de-stress, and enjoy some good old-fashioned girl talk over mani-pedi’s or a couple’s massage. We have a wonderful menu of treatments [link to treatment menu] to pamper mom. Call us at [phone number] to plan her perfect day.

2. Check Something Off Her To-Do List: We all have an ever-growing to-do list with that one errand or chore that just never seems to get done. Take a look at mom’s to-do list and check one big item off it for her. It might be updating the software on her computer, helping her plant a garden, cleaning out her closet for some spring cleaning – whatever it is that mom’s been dreading doing, do it for her with love!

3. Participate in Her Hobby for a Day: Does mom have a hard time getting someone to see a play, the opera, or the ballet with her? Has she asked you to take a cooking, dance, or gardening class together? Show mom that you care about her personal interests by just saying “yes” the next time she asks you to join her for one of her hobbies, or better yet, offer to take her on her activity of choice for this Mother’s Day weekend.

4. Take a Trip Down Memory Lane: Schedule some “remember when…?” time with mom. Dig out that old box of photos, letters, and keepsakes and sit down together to create a scrapbook or photo album of the special moments the two of you have shared from the time she brought you home from the hospital to the cup of tea you’re sharing right now for this trip down memory lane.

5. Socialize & Digitize Her! Learning new technology and social media can be intimidating and challenging for anyone, so help mom out with this! Get her set up on Facebook to connect with long-distance friends and family or help her create a fun Pinterest board for her arts and crafts. You can also digitize her favorite CDs by uploading them into iTunes and syncing her music with her phone.

6. Go For a Walk: We all need to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life once in a while, such a nice long chat over a slow walk with mom. It’s a great way to really catch up, burn a few calories, and take in some fresh air and nature at the same time!

Spring into Action!

family

Reveal your vibrant, healthy side this spring!

The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and it’s warming up outside.  Finally, spring is here!! What a perfect time to jump start a complete tune-up of your body, mind, and soul as you prepare for the carefree months ahead! Read on for tips to get healthy…inside and out.

  • Eliminate bad habits. We all have those annoying little habits that need to be addressed.  Do you procrastinate?  Do you overspend when you hit the mall? Have you been sliding into work a few minutes late?  Take this opportunity to recognize your areas of weakness and make the necessary adjustments to rid yourself of these pesky behaviors. Achieving self- discipline is a great way to boost your self-esteem.
  • Give your diet a complete overhaul.  Eating well is not just about losing weight.  It’s about being healthy. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats is essential for good health.  It’s a lifestyle, not a weight-loss fad.  When we put healthy food inside of us, we feel better and we look better.  Go ahead and commit to being healthy!
  • Make fitness fun!  Shed winter weight gain.  It’s a fact, most people gain at least a pound, if not more, during winter.  If you choose an activity you enjoy doing, you are more likely to stick to it.  Involve the whole family or perhaps a friend.  Go bike riding together or take a walk together a few times a week.  Get together for a game of touch football or basketball.  You don’t have to go to a gym to be fit.  Gather family members or friends and get moving!

  • Get your Zzzz’s.  We are all guilty of not getting enough sleep from time to time.  But did you know that poor sleep habits affect many, if not all, areas of your life?  When we don’t get enough sleep, we simply aren’t running at full capacity.  We’re not giving our best to our jobs, families, or even to ourselves.  Turn off the television at night and head to bed.  Isn’t it worth it if it makes you better in every aspect of your life?
  • Reveal radiant skin!  The winter months wreak havoc on our skin. We are exposed to freezing temperatures when we are outdoors followed by dry heat when we step inside.  This is a recipe for dry, scaly, itchy skin.  As the weather is warming up, take this opportunity to get your skin in shape.  You must exfoliate and moisturize to reveal youthful, dewy skin.  Your esthetician can create a skin care regimen for you and recommend the appropriate home care products to keep your skin glowing this spring.

  • Don’t forget about your lips. Your lips suffer from the harsh winter weather just like the rest of your body does. Again, exfoliating and moisturizing are key to revealing smooth, moist lips.  Visit the spa so we can show you what products are best for you.

Spring is a time of renewal.  It’s time to get rid of the winter blues and breathe in fresh, clean air.  Make this season your time of personal regeneration. Go ahead and try these tips for a month.  We are confident you will experience an extra spring in your step!!

Reveal Radiant, Beautiful Skin

shutterstock_126809579Every person wants to look and feel their best. The culmination of one year and the beginning of another is the perfect time to get rid of dull, dry skin and expose new, smooth, flawless skin.  Get your skin in shape from head to toe for the New Year!

Boost your confidence by putting your best face forward! Diminish fine lines, tighten, brighten and smooth your skin to reveal the beautiful face within!  Your esthetician can start with a chemical peel to slough off dry, dead skin followed by a hydrating mask to moisturize and calm stressed skin.  Next, lavish yourself with a hydrating facial to enhance your results.  Don’t forget to incorporate the proper home care products into your daily regimen to keep your face glowing and vibrant between spa visits.

Radiant skin isn’t just for your face.  Your body needs tender loving care, as well! Reserve your body makeover so you can look and feel your very best in 2014.  Just like with your face, you want to remove dry, dead skin.  Revitalize your skin tone and texture, and hydrate and renew your skin’s moisture balance with a body scrub.  Then, reduce cellulite and lose inches while you remove unwanted waste and toxins with a hydrating body contour wrap. Finally, relax with a deep, therapeutic massage to further remove toxins and relieve sore muscles. You’ll feel relaxed and rejuvenated.  And, of course….moisturize!!  Your massage therapist can recommend a perfect at-home moisturizer to keep your skin smooth and supple.

Here’s another important reminder. Water is vital to detoxifying. And detoxifying is crucial for healthy, vibrant skin. Water transports nutrients to the cells and assists in eliminating wastes and toxins. You’ve heard this so many times… drink at least 6 – 8 glasses of water each day. Staying hydrated inside and out is the key to a healthy body and beautiful skin. Your body needs water. Drink up!

Healthy Holiday Party Tips

Healthy Holiday Party Tips

Keep your commitment to healthy eating!

The holidays are such a festive, fun time of year! We get to spend time with friends and family, shop our cares away and attend all of those holiday parties.  Whether it’s the office party or a gathering at a neighbor’s house, parties are in full swing during the holidays.  And so are the food and drinks! This can cause anxiety for even the healthiest eaters.  But, it doesn’t have to!  Try these helpful tips to enjoy the festivities in a healthy and safe way.healthy-party-tips-image

Don’t arrive hungry.  Enjoy a small, healthy snack of nuts, cheese, and fruit, such as an apple or grapes, before the party. You want to arrive to the party satisfied, not starving and eyeing the buffet table as soon as you walk through the door.

Easy does it on the alcohol.  Loading up on alcoholic beverages is a recipe for disaster.  You know that tasty, holiday drinks can be loaded with alcohol and calories.  And isn’t it fun to pair them up with some “carby” snacks?  Don’t fall into that trap!  You’ve heard the saying, “Everything in moderation.”  This would be the time to put that into practice.

Also, keep in mind….your alcohol intake and behavior at a business party must be more composed versus that of a friend’s party. Remember the infamous Elaine dance on that hilarious episode of Seinfeld?  Elaine is the life of the party as she performs her “dry heave dance” all night long at a business party.  Needless to say, she is mocked and whispered about in the office for the following weeks.  Don’t be Elaine!  Keep your behavior in check.

Sip on your cocktails instead of gulping them down. Try drinking water after an alcoholic beverage to fill you up and lessen the effects of the alcohol.  And, most importantly…make sure you have someone designated to get you home safely.

Look for the fruit and vegetable trays. Fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of nutrients, high in fiber, low in calories, and a delicious snack.  If you’re really hungry, consume those first.

Stay away from dips and spreads.  Fruits and veggies are a healthy choice until you dip them in caramel sauce or the specialty dip of the night.  Don’t undo the positive decisions you’ve made up until this point.  Stick to it.  You can do it!

Holiday festivities can be lots of fun.  But, it doesn’t mean we should make unhealthy choices.  It’s easy to overindulge at parties only to wake up with regrets the next morning.  However, if you plan carefully, and make wise choices, you can have fun at your party and feel great the next day.

How will your after-party be? It’s up to you!  Enjoy!
