Charity as an Expression of Love!

Celebrate the Month of Love through Acts of Kindness

Love is in the air this month!  We’ll see happy couples exchanging gifts, making plans for Valentine’s Day, and stampeding their favorite florists for the perfect flower arrangement.  But, this year, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be for couples only.  We all can show our love by helping others this month.

Read on for recent acts of kindness by celebrities, as well as one little girl in Florida and an entire football team in Georgia:

Singer, Taylor Swift surprised a 10-year old fan at her hospital bedside in March, 2013. The child’s family had previously made a YouTube video requesting the pop star’s visit.

Actor, Bradley Cooper and NFL wide receiver, Julian Edelman visited a fan who was recovering from surgery after suffering injuries during the Boston Marathon bombing last year.

In 2013, soccer player, David Beckham announced that he would donate his entire salary to charity.

Did you hear about the little girl in Tampa, Florida who collected over $100.00 in pennies from friends and families and donated it to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay? What an amazing act of love for a child!

And then there’s the Roswell High School football team who recently expressed many acts of kindness to a 9-year old fan battling leukemia.  Not only did they offer continued encouragement by sending cards and organizing fundraisers, but they also rallied together and named her their Homecoming Sweetheart!  Now, that’s teamwork at its finest!

You don’t have to be famous or have a lot of money to assist those in need.  In many cases, simply contributing your time can be the most worthy donation of all.

Want to help, but don’t know where to begin?  Check out the following organizations for opportunities to assist both financially and/or by volunteering your time:

  • Salvation Army
  • Give Kids the World
  • American Cancer Society
  • American Red Cross
  • Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society

Make this a Valentine’s Day to remember.  Follow your heart and assist someone less fortunate than yourself.  You’ll be so glad that you did!
